Mobile phones in the classroom… eeek

Filed under: Uncategorized — shezbutt at 11:09 am on Wednesday, November 11, 2009

While reading aandf’s blog about mobile phone being put to ‘good use’ in the classroom, I found myself worried and scared for teaching in the future.

While I agree with aandf’s points about mobile phones having the ability to create meaningfula nd creative lessons, I find myself hesitant for the reason of losing control. Mobile phones recently have been portrayed negatively in the media with things such as ‘sexting’ and ‘text bullying’. Engaging them into the classroom, would be allowing educators, and people who can minimise these harmful by-products, to give children opportunities for them to occur.

Blogs can boost self-esteem?

Filed under: Uncategorized — shezbutt at 1:51 pm on Friday, October 9, 2009

After reading Sarah Fallon’s blog titled All the world’s a stage: teaching through online journals, and I found myself very interested with blogs possible effects on students self-esteem.

Sarah’s blog discusses an example in America where grade 4 students create and post blogs to which grade 11 students from another school read and comment on. The fact that the grade 4 students had an audience seemed to really encourage them as they felt like someone was caring about what they wrote. I think this example is an excellent way in encouraging students to write as it places value on their work.
